Cobalt Octoate
Cobalt 2-EthylHexanoate
- Cobalt octoate is a primary/active drier
- Cobalt drier is the most widely used drier in coating
- It is primarily an oxidation catalyst that acts on top of the coated film (Surface Drier)
- Cobalt octoate has a deep blue color, and if used at higher concentrations may affect the color of the paint
- Cobalt octoate prevents water vapor present in atmosphere from penetrating the paint film
- It is generally used in combination with other auxiliary and through driers
- Cobalt drier is usually added at 0.05 to 0.4 % based on vehicle solids
- It preferably should be added as near as possible to the end of the manufacturing process
- To prevent a very quick initial drying which would result in surface wrinkling, the dosage of cobalt drier should be chosen precisely
- It accelerates the catalytic effect of Methyl ethyl ketone (M.E.K.) Peroxide in polymerizing unsaturated polyester (UPR) resins.
